Draft Environmental Management & Maintenance Plan: Upgrading of Baydunes Sewer Pump Station, Mossel Bay

Mossel Bay Municipality intends to upgrade the Baydunes Sewer Pumpstation. The pumpstation is situated within 100 m of the highwater mark of the sea and within 500 m of a wetland mapped in terms of the National Freshwater Ecosystem Priority Areas.

The undertaking of the proposed upgrade will result in the movement of more than 5 cubes of sand within 100m of the highwater mark of the sea and therefore triggers Activity 19A of Listing Notice 1 (GNR 327) of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations 2014, as amended, published in terms of the NEMA. Written authorisation is required from the Western Cape Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning prior to the undertaking of the said activity. The afore-mentioned activity makes provision for the adoption of a Maintenance Management Plan (MMP) in terms of the NEMA EIA Regulations, 2014 (as amended). A general authorisation is required to be registered with the Department of Water and Sanitation for Section 21 (c) and (i) water uses of the NWA.
